Latest newsQueen's Birthday Honours for Monash communityJune 2010 Monash University congratulates its alumni, staff, former staff and supporters who received Queen's Birthday Honours in 2010. Members of the Monash community were recognised for their contributions to economics, law, medicine, and multiculturalism. Mr Graeme Samuel (LLM 1977) was awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia for his contributions in the area of economic reform and competition law as well as his leadership roles with sporting and cultural organisations. Australian of the Year and Monash alumnus Professor Patrick McGorry (PhD 1991) was recognised with an Officer of the Order of Australia for his service to medicine and mental health. Monash alumnus Mr George Lekakis (PhD 1991) was recognised for his leadership roles in multicultural organisations with an Officer of the Order of Australia. Alumna and staff member Dr Joanne Wainer (PhD 2005) received a Member of the Order of Australia for her work in the area of women's reproductive health rights, and roles promoting women in medicine, particularly in rural and remote areas. Professor Margaret Alston, a current staff member from the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, was presented with a Medal of the Order of Australia for her service to the community in the field of social work. Monash community honoured on Australia DayJanuary 2010 Monash University congratulates its alumni, staff, former staff and supporters who received Australia Day Honours in 2010. Members of the Monash community were recognised for their contributions to fields including business, visual and performing arts, the law, education, medicine, and the community. Among those honoured were Monash supporter Mr James Fairfax AC who was recognised for his service to visual arts, conservation organisations and building programs; alumna and supporter Ms Naomi Milgrom AO (BA 1973) for service to business and the community; and alumnus Mr Alan Henderson AM PSM (BEc 1967, BEc(Hons) 1970, MEc 1972) who was recognised for continued service to public administration.
