Three Monash University alumni have received Australian Alumni Awards in Indonesia. The awards recognise the contributions made by Indonesians who have studied in Australia.
The Distinguished Alumni Award was awarded to Monash alumni, Vice-President of Indonesia Professor Dr Boediono (MEc 1972) and Vice Trade Minister Mahendra Siregar (MEc 1994).
Journalist and author Valerina Daniel (MComn&MediaSt 2010) received the Australian Alumni Award for Journalism and Media.
Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Greg Moriarty congratulated the winners at the award ceremony in Jakarta.
“I am delighted to celebrate the 4th Australian Alumni Awards, an event that recognises outstanding achievements by a remarkable group of Indonesians in their chosen fields,” Ambassador Moriarty said.
“It is a rewarding experience for me to see so many Indonesians return from their studies in Australia and make significant contributions to Indonesia’s progress.”
Professor Dr Boediono became Vice-President of the Republic of Indonesia in 2009. Prior to this he was Governor of the Bank of Indonesia. He has also served as Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Minister of Finance and State Minister for National Development Planning.
Mr Siregar has been Vice-Minister for Trade since November 2009. He has previously been the Chairman and CEO of Indonesian Eximbank and served as Deputy Coordinating Minister for Economic Cooperation and International Financing.
Ms Daniel is an author and television journalist who is an anchor at SCTV, one of Indonesia’s leading television stations.
